Parshuram (Bengali: পরশুরাম) is an upazila of Feni District in the Division of Chittagong, in southeast Bangladesh.

Geography

Parshuram is located at . It has 30,989 units of household. The total area is 196.61 square kilometres (75.9 sq mi).

Demographics

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Parshuram had a population of 176,731. Males constituted 50.25% of the population, and females 49.75%. This Upazila's 18+ population was 84,659. Parshuram has an average literacy rate of 42.7% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[1]

Parshuram has 10 unions/wards, 166 mauzas/mahallas, and 162 villages.

South Guthuma

South Guthuma is a village in the Parshuram Upazila. 87% of people are literate in this village. The villagers are gentle and respect one another. Most of people from this village live in capital Dhaka and Chittagong city.

Notable personalities

Parashuram is the home town of Anwarul Iqbal, a prominent adviser of the interim Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, who was also the 25th IGP of the Bangladesh Police.

Parashuram is the home Upazila town of A.B.A. Siraj Uddowlah, Vill & P.O. Durgapur, the Resident Director of Bangladesh of Shell Oil major. From 1999 he has been an advisor of Shell Exploration of Bangladesh. He is also known for helping the poor at Ratanpur, Durgapur, Rampur, M. Dhanikunda (Chargaram Shamabai Samity Ltd.) From 1985, improving literacy from 5% to 65% and providing 100% sanitation, excellent communication establish by "Samity Road" 1.5 km distance long on the very lowland, Primary school, High school, Public Library (South Guthuma social welfare association & Library), culvert, religious centre, fisheries, and irrigation programme to more than 1,000-acre (4.0 km2) area. He provided more than 750 nos simi House (steel) & wood/tuch MS for settlement for least low-income holders. He is a friend of poor people.
